Yoga for Digestion Assimilation and Elimination
Good digestion is about absorbing what you need and eliminating what you do not – physically, emotionally, mentally, energetically, spiritually. When your digestive system is healthy you will be able to receive nourishment from your food and people in your life. Good digestion means letting yourself be nurtured and nourished. It may be time to take stock of belief systems that no longer nourish you. If you are always hungry and craving food it may be that you are not allowing yourself to be nurtured and so there is a longing to fill hidden needs.
Indigestion is caused as much by worry and stress as it is by taking in the wrong foods. Your stomach is where worry takes place. Digestive enzymes churn with anxiety, until you can no longer stomach what is happening. Food is often used to pacify anxiety, leading to further digestive difficulties.
Your small Intestines absorb and assimilate nutrients and prepare unwanted food for elimination. Your small intestines are also where you assimilate and absorb the details of your reality. This is where you process and digest what you have taken in. Intestinal issues relate to stress and tension from your daily life. An inability to retain and absorb that which is beneficial and contributes to your equilibrium can lead to intestinal issues. Often when there are issues with the small intestines it is because one gets hung up on details and can’t see the forest for the trees.
Your large intestines are about releasing and letting go. What fear, guilt, and grief are holding you back from releasing and letting go? Problems with your large intestine and colon are about clinging to that which has already served its purpose. Holding onto grief and sadness prolongs the pain. When there is a fear of letting go it is a lack of trust. Sometimes it is an inability to let go of old ideas or belief systems that are no longer of use. If there is diarrhea it could be that you reject ideas to quickly.
