Hangnail Remedy
Last time my esthetician Christine was here doing her nails she mentioned that she had unusually high number of hangnails. I said that I remembered reading in a nutrition book that I had read that hangnails are sometimes due to a nutritional deficiency and that I would look it up for her and create a juice. Turns out hangnails are due to zinc deficiency. They can also be due to a deficiency in vitamin C, folic acid, and proteins.
Zinc is important for building protein in your body and creating DNA. (spinach, nappa cabbage)
Folic acid is important for cellular growth and regeneration. (dark leafy greens, citrus fruits, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, beets, celery, carrots).
Vitamin C (oranges, grapefruit)
Juice Recipe for Hangnails:
2 cups Spinach
1 grapefruit
1 large beet

Dear Melissa, Do you have any tips on what juices would be good for the kidneys and bladder, For the past 8-9 years I have suffered UTI’s on and off and at one point I was having them monthly, I now take cranberry and pro-biotics, I don’t get UTI’s as often as I used to, but they still like to show up now and again, mainly when I am stressed or have pmt, I am sure it also has somthing to do with my Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, recently My teenage daughter has been diagnosed with PCOS too and I think the stress from knowing that might of caused my new UTI,

emshair Hi Emma, I would be happy to do some research and put together something for you in an upcoming Thirsty Thursday video! Thank you for your request. I’m sorry to hear about the recurring UTIs and PCOS for you and your daughter 🙁 xo Melissa
This was enlightening, as I always have the same two hangnails reappearing again and again. However, I have been juicing using the following ingredients for quite some time now, MINUS the grapefruit. This must be the magic missing ingredient. I’ll get right on it.
helios1 Check out the other ingredients and sources of zinc, folic acid, and vitamin C as well too Janis … maybe even look into supplementing. Always work checking in with a naturopathic doctor. xo Melissa
Thanks so much melissa 😉 xoxoxo
