Yoga with Melissa 33 is about ahimsa or nonviolence. This is the first in a ten-class series on the yamas and niyamas as outlined by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. The yoga sutra is one of the most well-known spiritual texts of yoga. The yamas and niyamas are the ethical practices and social observances by which we can choose to live our lives. Ahimsa is the first and most important of all the yamas. Ahimsa means nonviolence, or compassion and kindness. In the thirty-third episode of Namaste Yoga we will explore the yama ahimsa as it pertains to our thoughts words and actions. We will also cultivate non-violence through our thoughts and bodies as we practice yoga asana.
The yoga class begins with some neck, shoulder and hip releases. The class includes hip and heart openers with lots of yoga poses to release your hips and open your chest. We practice dancer pose and camel pose with a focus on bringing and attitude of nonviolence to your body. We finish your practice with a spinal twist to release your spine and savasana.
