Yoga with Melissa 92 is on Tree Pose or Vrikshasana. This is the final hatha yoga class in the yoga story series. To finish off our series with will practice with tree pose which is said to be symbolic of birth and death. The seasonal nature of trees promises both death and rebirth. In this class we will transform our bodies into trees with our feet and legs being the roots, our torsos being the trunk and our hearts, arms, hands and fingertips will become the branches. This class promises to help you root down into the earth for nourishment, connect to the strength, stability, and power of your “trunk” and reach into the light, i.e. spirit, with your branches.
This hatha yoga class begins with three part breath. Then we lie down and do some hip and shoulder releases. We strengthen our “trunk” or our core with some abdominal curls and core strengthening poses in this yoga class. Couch pose encourages more core stabilization. When we come up to seated we do some spinal energy series and then some grounding through the foot series. This class has frog pose to release your groin. There is also some hand yoga. From the seated position we continue to strengthen your core with boat pose and plank before we come to standing for tree pose. We will complete this class and series with a powerful tree meditation.
